Electric Porsche 911 not happening, confirms CEO

It’s good news for Porsche 911 fans and purists. CEO Michael Leiters has confirmed that there’s no electric 911 happening, and the sports car will continue to use ICE and hybrid power.

Leiters made it clear that the iconic sports car will continue to rely on combustion and hybrid power, rather than switching to a fully electric setup. He said that the 911’s identity remains deeply tied to its engine character and driving feel – something an EV simply can’t replicate yet.

That doesn’t mean Porsche is backing away from electrification altogether. The brand is investing heavily in EVs and expanding its electric portfolio. But when it comes to the 911, Porsche is taking a more measured approach, focusing instead on hybridisation to meet evolving regulations without diluting the car’s character.

For enthusiasts, this is reassuring news. The flat-six isn’t going anywhere just yet. And if Porsche gets the balance right, the 911 could continue to evolve without losing what makes it special in the first place.
