Next-gen BMW X5 with FIVE powertrain options nears production

BMW is almost ready to roll out the next-generation X5, with final calibration drives currently underway at its Spartanburg facility. The upcoming SUV will be offered with FIVE powertrain options.

For the first time, the BMW X5 will be offered with five different drive systems. Buyers can choose from petrol and diesel 48V mild-hybrids, a plug-in hybrid, a fully electric iX5, and even a hydrogen-powered version set to arrive in 2028.

The electric iX5 60 xDrive leads the charge for now. With 578 hp and BMW’s latest sixth-gen eDrive tech, it brings 800V architecture and the biggest battery ever fitted to a BMW EV. It’s designed to deliver both range and serious performance.

Further down the line, the iX5 Hydrogen will showcase BMW’s alternative vision for zero-emission driving. Its advanced fuel-cell setup and smart tank packaging promise usability without compromise.

Underneath it all sits a new BMW Dynamic Performance Control system that manages power, braking, and steering far quicker than before. The result should be a sharper, more connected drive across every version.

The next-gen BMW X5 will also come with ADAS features operating at level 2 automation.

When launched, the X5 will compete with the new Audi Q7 and the likes.
